David Kidd
Shadow and LIght: New Paintings
7 November 13 December
Opening reception: 7 November, 6 - 8 pm

"The physical act of applying paint has a strong influence on the direction of my paintings. Layering, editing. and re-editing, function as a meditative dialogue between the work and me. I want the act of painting to be a journey of discovery."

The recent paintings of Atlanta artist David Kidd continue an evolving series of images inspired by elements of nature. His paintings, in acrylic on canvas or birch panels, comprise alternating layers of thick textured paint and translucent glazes. These layers, steadily added and removed, provide what Kidd calls "a visual road map" to the painting's development. The resulting surfaces are rich and complex, combining with the shadowy biomorphic forms. Abstracted to varying degrees, these provide a visual framework for the act of painting itself, which is the artist’s central concern.
