Helen Durant

The Return of the Herd signals the artist's revisiting--possibly for a final time--the imaginative, idiosyncratic, witty, and often anthropomorphized goats that have enchanted Atlanta for decades. Helen's incisive use of line conveys her ideas with unusual economy and directness. Her mastery of collage is total, always a delight, and richly inventive. Her first love is drawing, which is always her starting point. Keenly interested in the role of the subconscious in her creative process, she focuses on letting the "content" emerge from of the acts of drawing, painting, and assembling. She then edits and shapes her impulses toward their final form.

Tracy Sharp

In Contemplating Duality, Tracy Sharp continues her sensitive exploration of the human face and form. Her work on panel is dense, ruminative, often thickly textured, and her images only slowly emerge through her process: "Somewhere between wet layers of pigment and plaster, water and coffee, shapes begin to emerge, slowly morphing into gestures and faces, always taking human form. It's like looking at clouds. Gradually over days, sometimes weeks, the pieces come together." The meaning of her work, however, is left to the viewer. "As intimate as I am with the work in its creation, once it leaves me, it becomes something new. It is left for someone else to discover, define, and find meaning."
