Four Painters celebrates the 25th anniversary of Thomas Deans Fine Art, and it also celebrates the act of painting itself. Four artists, each with a unique and particular vision, share in common an affinity for the physical qualities of paint and its expressive application.
Christopher Le Brun
has long been known as a virtuoso, a refined yet intense modern exponent of the “grand manner.”
Mark English
has transitioned from being one of the country’s most admired illustrators into the role of fine artist. His work has an intuitive strength of design that is articulated by rich, contrasting surfaces.
By contrast, the paintings of
Jeffrey Lewis and
Carlton Nell, Jr.
are more intimate and contemplative; their smaller scale in no way limits their impact.
Lewis’s luminous encaustic images emerge organically from layer upon layer of color, while the strong graphic quality of Nell’s landscapes is elaborated, softened, and brought to life by contrasting texture and brushwork of extreme delicacy.
Established in 1983, Thomas Deans Fine Art has long been recognized as one of the country's leading dealers in historic British art on paper. In the last decade, the gallery has extended its inventory and exhibitions in Atlanta to encompass an exciting variety of work, including paintings, drawings, and master prints by twentieth-century and contemporary American and European artists, and contemporary fine-art photography. The gallery works regularly with museums, corporate and private buyers, and designers.
Gallery hours: Tuesday – Saturday, 11:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., and by appointment
