a Portrait of Queen Henrietta Maria, after Van Dyck
Pencil
with white chalk on buff paper
Inscribed
8-1/4 x 5-1/4 inches
| Richmond's
own portraits, at their grandest, have been described as the Victorian answer
to Van Dyck. [David Blaney Brown, 1996] Throughout his life, Richmond made
studies from paintings by Old Masters. This drawing is based on the painting
of the French Queen Consort of Charles I, in the Royal Collection at Windsor.
