Kevin Saunders

Kevin Saunders's medium is the silver gelatin print, the classic black and white print, made famous by Ansel Adams and Edward Weston. This painstaking process, which has remained largely unchanged since the 1880’s, produces beautiful, rich prints with bright, luminous whites, deep velvety blacks, and countless subtle grays in between.

With his selective eye, Saunders finds the uncommon within the commonplace and pattern in all he sees. His images have an emotional directness that place them firmly in the now, while their formal structure and technique mark them as part of a timeless tradition. Saunders uses elements of landscape and architecture to create images that, paradoxically, are both concrete and abstract. He finds in his search for beauty intriguing and unexpected visual patterns, by turns elegant, quirky, contemplative, mysterious, and always beautiful.
