Stephen Pentak

Stephen Pentak has always found inspiration for his paintings in nature, whether in his backyard or the rivers where he fly-casts. Pentak's superbly poetic landscapes, which invariably concern water, are created with abundant paint, large brushes and palette knives, and even squeeges, whose marks not only reveal how the paintings were executed but impart a majestic serenity, no matter the scale.

According to the artist, "each painting is a measure of time: time spent observing, time spent reflecting, and time spent in the act of painting. The paintings are conscious of time, but time's relationship to memory and the act of constant reconstruction."
