Artist's Statement
I have a long history of producing landscape paintings and have really done the full spectrum, ranging from Deibenkorn-inspired planar "scapes" to quasi-luminist pieces. In between the landscapes, I have experimented extensively with form and structure in my work.

All of these phases are connected and part of my journey as an artist. I am constantly looking at different elements and imagery to add to my work and it does take a while for the bodies of work to come together.

My range of art historical and cultural references is very wide. At different phases I have been influenced by German Expressionism (Kirschner, Schiele and Nolde), the Bay Area Figurative artists (Deibenkorn, Park and Bischoff) and others.

Over the past 15 years, my experiments with both color and format have led to a desire to produce work outside of the traditional landscape perspective. Time spent in Oaxaca, Mexico over the past 6 years has reawakened my interest in non-European art forms, including Mesoamerican and Asian.

My intent is to combine a luminous color palette with natural patterns and shapes in a manner that conveys both the inner landscape of my mind and aspects of the natural world.
